Want to hear a fish story that will guarantee you catch more fish and help you grow your local small business?
I have taken exotic fishing trips around the world. I just love to catch and eat fish.
Now I want to compare my story to your marketing…
I have a not-so secret (secret) to share with you relating to your sales and marketing process.
I have all the fancy tools and gear, but they are not the secret to my fishing success. Perhaps some of you can relate to all the fancy marketing tools that are available to you today.
My story begins in Alaska almost five years ago…
I flew to Alaska because I wanted to fish for salmon and halibut on the same day. Both fish are fighting fish and happen to be my favorite to eat.
On the first day we arrived in a remote area and began to fish from one of the many rivers. We soon discovered the only biting that day would be the bugs biting us from the river bank.
So brimming with optimism we returned to our remote cabin and got cleaned-up for dinner. Of course we were hoping for a dinner of fish that we had caught that day, but it was not so…
We awakened early the next morning and went to a local gas station to fuel our rented 4-wheel drive vehicle. While there, I struck-up a conversation with a local resident. During the course of our conversation, I admitted we got skunked in our fishing yesterday. To our amazement, he offered to drive us to the exact spot we should fish and exactly what we should use for bait.
Thirty-minutes into our drive, this road trip was beginning to look like a scene from a bad horror picture. We were already in the middle of nowhere and somehow we were going even further into the proverbial nowhere zone.
Eventually we approached a pristine river outlet that fed into the Kenai River.
The gentlemen got out of his truck walked us to the river bank and told us exactly where to fish and where not to fish and told us exactly what bait to use at various times of the day.
Five-minutes after his instruction, he drove off never to be seen by us again.
We did exactly what he said and we caught so many fish we had to take a break. We caught salmon when we wanted and then if we decided we wanted to catch a halibut, almost on cue, we caught halibut.
It was, at that time, the greatest fishing day of my life.
And since that day, I’ve had many other greatest fishing days of my life around the world.
Do you know why that day was the day we caught so many fish compared to the day before?
The reason we caught so many fish that day was because a local expert took us to the place where the fish were starving and told us exactly what they would eat.
Business and fishing have so many parallels…
If you identify the urgent needs of your selected target market where those you select to serve are starving for what you have to offer as a solution, you will be more successful in your business in less time than you have ever been before.
For example here are a few of our ideal client favorites:
- The Carhartt work wear distributor that sells the best (most expensive) work wear to safety managers of large organizations with a work-force requiring the best safety protective work wear.
- The wedding planner that plans the entire weddings of those couples who have been previously married and had a disastrous wedding event experience.
- The funeral director that serves those terminally-ill people by organizing a “living-wake” and then has the honor of laying those people to rest when they pass on.
- The women who organizes a fly-fishing course for women newly diagnosed, in-treatment, and losing their battle to cancer where the lessons of fly-fishing parallel the lessons of cancer treatment and support.
- The local caterer hired to serve great tasting organic vegetarian food to local events for people who are not vegetarians as a spin on a food theme.
If you’ll excuse me, I’m goin fishin’
