I’ve lived all around the country as a military brat, Army Officer, and former Corporate Gypsy.
I’ve learned over time that the place I belong changes. What do you think?
I asked some of my talented friends to share with you their version of home.
I decided to ask six of my entrepreneur friends from different parts of the country to contribute a 1-minute or less video on why they have chosen to live, work & play in their town or city.
Kind of funny, only those friends from my home state of Oregon chose to complete my request. Maybe my friends who did not complete my request knew they could not compete with Oregon, not even for 1-minute:)

Matthew,
This was wonderful. The idea of self and place; place as ‘home’, where you belong, is really powerful, especially in ways that it feeds your creativity. The video was a great bonus. thanks, so much.
Do you remember David Whyte? He wrote The Heart Aroused. It was forcused on business.
He also wrote a book of poetry called The House of Belonging. You might be interested in it.

Patricia, I’m so glad you enjoyed and the book recommendations.
My wife is taking a well-deserved girlfriend night out and she is near Borders. I just called and she is going to pick-up The House of Belonging for me.
Thanks so much.
Matthew,
You’re lucky to have found Oregon, it’s beyond amazing. I grew up in Prineville (central oregon) and have lived in Hood River for 13 years. Working here is amazing, great local clients, only 50 minutes from PDX clients and the airport. Living here with the best food, beer, wine, mountain biking, snowboarding makes it worthwhile. Add fun, bright, live-in-the-moment, progressive, charming neighbors and it’s damn hard to beat. Very nice piece.
hey matthew – another book i use frequently in a course i teach is “The Power of Place” by Winifred Gallagher. Great book about the cultural and psychological impacts of living and working in different environments….add it to your list.
Matt, I’m always looking for great book recommendations. I’ll hit Amazon and buy the book. Thanks again.
@Lisa We are lucky by intention to live in Oregon. Hey, I’m the fat dude in the wet suit trying to wind surf the next time you look upon the river. Don’t laugh & say hi!
